PROVIDENCE, RI– A Warwick male who confessed to dispersing kid pornography and molesting a prepubescent kid was sentenced Thursday to ten years in federal jail.

United States Lawyer Zachary A. Cunha revealed Owen Batista, 27, formerly confessed to a federal judge that in August 2020, he published a link in an online kid porn chat group that, when clicked, directed users to an online storage folder including images and videos of kid sexual assault.

A Salt Lake City, Utah, law officer, working undercover, accessed the link, which caused 738 mp4 video files. Eighteen of the video files were downloaded as a sample; seventeen of them illustrated sexual assault of kids, kid pornography, Cunha revealed.

In October 2020, after finding out Batista was the administrator of the kid pornography files, FBI representatives in Providence performed a court-authorized search warrant at Batista’s home, discovering videos of kid sexual assault, consisting of a collage of images illustrating kids in between the ages of 2 to ten years old being mistreated, on an electronic gadget coming from Batista, according to the U.S. Lawyer’s workplace.

According to court files, at the time of his arrest, when asked if he had actually ever had improper contact with a kid, Batista specified that roughly one year prior he had an “chance” alone with a 5-year-old woman which he “benefited from the minute.” Batista confessed to making several kid pornography videos of this abuse, and to sending out these images to another person. More examination figured out that Batista had actually been interacting online with other people about the sharing of videos of kid sexual assault. One such individual was later on recognized as a New york city male, who was consequently jailed by the FBI and charged in New york city with circulation of kid porn.

Batista was sentenced today by U.S. District Court Judge William E. Smith to 120 months in federal jail to be followed by ten years of monitored release.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Lawyer Lee H. Vilker.
