R.I. Crime Sufferer Compensation Program gives $872K in FY 22

PROVIDENCE – The state offered greater than $872,000 in value reimbursements to Rhode Islanders who have been victims of violent crimes in fiscal 2022, in keeping with the R.I. Workplace of the Common Treasurer.

The Crime Sufferer Compensation Program, out of the treasurer’s workplace, gives as much as $25,000 an individual to victims of violent crime to assist pay for prices not coated by insurance coverage, similar to medical payments, funeral and burial prices, lack of earnings and relocation prices.

Within the fiscal 12 months that ended June 30, this system helped greater than 900 individuals with a mixed $872,322.80 in eligible expense reimbursements.

Since 2015, this system has offered almost $8.9 million to only beneath 8,000 crime victims, the discharge acknowledged.

To be eligible for reimbursement, victims of violent crime should file a police report inside 10 days of the alleged crime and file a declare via the Crime Sufferer Compensation Program no later than three years after the crime.
