PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP)– A Rhode Island female employed to work for a home cleaning company was fired simply days later on after management discovered that she was pregnant, the female stated in a discrimination suit submitted Monday.
The suit submitted by the American Civil Liberties Union of Rhode Island on behalf of Bristol resident Julia Schultz declares that the owners of Merry Maids of Rhode Island breached state civil liberties law.
Schultz obtained your house cleaner position in late April 2021 when she had to do with 16 weeks pregnant, according to the suit.
She participated in an orientation program for brand-new hires in early Might 2021, throughout which the business’s co-owner asked if she was pregnant, according to the fit. When she validated she was, the co-owner stated she might not use her the task since of its “physical needs” and stated she “must be at house making sure” of the child. She then recommended Schultz reapply after the child’s birth.
” When I left the structure that day, I felt so embarrassed, like I was doing something incorrect by attempting to work while pregnant,” Schultz stated.
